If you’ve ever lit a CFL candle, you know just how lovely they are! The delicious scents, the adorable hand-lettered labels, and of course the cute jars they come in! But this year we launched our very first candle in a mug! Our “Winter Wonerland” candle is an adorable, pale blue, hand-lettered camper mug filled with our best-selling Tree Farm scent! If you haven’t bought yours yet, you’re missing out on the perfect holiday scent! The only sad thing about a CFL candle is when it’s all used up 🙁 You don’t have to throw that cute mug away though! We wanted to show you how you can clean and repurpose your mug so you can use it for years. Just follow these simple steps to get the remaining wax out and clean the mug (the same instructions apply for cleaning and repurposing our classic candle jars).

  1. Put the mug in the freezer overnight (about 12 hours). This makes the wax removal process much easier.
  2. Take the mug out of the freezer, and gently but firmly press (not stab) the tip of a knife into the frozen wax at the bottom. Continue pressing the knife in different spots until the wax breaks up into pieces. You can either discard the pieces or put them in a wax melter to extend the life of your candle.
  3. Use a fork to gently pry the metal wick tab out of the mug, then discard it.
  4. Wipe out any remaining wax or soot from the inside of the mug with a paper towel.
  5. Allow the mug to sit until it’s back to room temperature before cleaning it with hot water. Once it’s no longer cold, scrub the inside and out with hot water, soap, and a sponge.
  6. Dry it off and enjoy your mug!

As stated before, these instructions can be used to clean and repurpose our classic candle jars too. The jars are great to use as drinking glasses, storage for homemade sauces or leftovers, or to grow herbs in on your windowsill! We want to see how you repurpose your CFL candle jars and mug!
