Don’t you just love the holidays? The lights, the cookies, the hot cocoa, the presents. When I get up in the morning the first thing I do is turn on the Christmas tree, because, let’s be honest, Christmas spirit is more fuel to my day than any cup of coffee could ever be. And after a long day spent shopping and wrapping presents, I like to keep the Christmas spirit alive with little thing we call a “Cup of Cheer”. The contents of my cup of cheer can vary from day to day, but I’d be lying if I told you that this mulled cider bourbon cocktail was not in heavy rotation. It is a delightful holiday treat and is oh so easy to make, plus, if you don’t feel like getting boozy, it makes a delicious mocktail 🙂 But lets, be honest, we feel like getting boozy most of the time.
Mulled Cider Bourbon Cocktail Recipe
Using the CFL mulling spices (or any mulling spices you have on hand) brew up some mulled cider by simmering 2-3 Tbs of mulling spices with 4 cups of apple cider for for 20 minutes. If you have fresh ginger, slice it up and add it to the mix for a little extra kick.
For one cocktail, you will need:
1/3 cup mulled cider 2 oz bourbon 1/2 lemon (juiced)
For a warm and cozy beverage, simply mix the hot mulled cider with the bourbon and lemon juice in a mug. Make it a little less sweet by adding a little bit of hot water.
For an iced cocktail, fill a low ball glass (or Cup of Cheer wine glass) with ice and add the cooled mulled cider, bourbon, and lemon juice. Stir to mix. Add a splash of sparkling water to make it less sweet, or a splash of ginger beer to make it a little more sweet/spicy.
For a mocktail, take the mulled cider and add it to a glass of ice and mix with a splash of sparkling water or ginger beer, and a big squeeze of lemon 🙂
